Located on 20 acres in the beautiful South Mountain Reservation, Turtle Back Zoo exhibits species from all 5 continents. Since 1991, Jenkinson’s Aquarium has dedicated itself to the education, conservation, and superior care of a diverse collection of life from aquatic habitats. We strive to provide our guests with a unique and memorable experience through creative exhibits as well as innovative educational and outreach programs.

Conservation Efforts:

Jenkinson’s Aquarium is home to Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle and the African penguin, both endangered species.

Participation in SSPs (Species Survival Plans):

The Aquarium participates in SSPs for the African penguin, as well as for the Lake Victoria cichlid, Pancake tortoise, Pygmy marmoset, Lined seahorse, Spotted seahorse, Ocellated river stingray, & Harbor Seal.

The Bergen County Zoo is home to the following endangered species: Andean condor, Mississippi gopher frog , Panamanian golden frog, Cotton-top tamarin, Goeldi’s monkey, Ocelot, Golden lion tamarin, Baird’s tapir, and Puerto Rican crested toad.
